About

We have two projects you can help us with to make Utah State University digital content more accessible. As you get started, we have step-by-step instructions to walk you through each of the projects. There is no time commitment for these projects, you can jump on and help for 5 minutes or stick around for a few hours! You are welcome to help with one project or learn how to do all four of them. Below are descriptions of our projects:

Accessible Images

Many of the images currently being used in lack alternative text (alt text). Alt text is what screen readers (software used by people who are blind or low-vision to interact with websites) read when they come across an image. Without it, users don't get any useful information about the image.

In this project, you'll add alt text to images in courses, to make sure blind and low vision users can access the same content as visual users!

Captions

In this project, you'll learn how to start with an uncaptioned, inaccessible YouTube video and turn it into a captioned video. The videos captioned in this project are then re-published with captions so that they're publicly available and more usable for everyone.
