    Capitol Area Food Bank

I loved my experience volunteering at the Capital Area Food Bank. It was a great opportunity to connect with others and work together toward a common goal of helping people in our community. I especially appreciated being able to help build nutritious care packages for adults aged 65 and older. This experience allowed me to recognize how important access to nutritious food is to maintaining a person's overall health and well being.

When it comes to the biology side of this experience, it is connected to what I have been learning in class about macromolecules and what they do in the human body. Carbohydrates provide energy, proteins help build and repair tissues, and lipids provide long-term energy storage and contribute to cell membrane structure. Access to a balanced diet that provides essential nutrients helps the body carry out these important functions. For elders, proper nutrition is particularly important for supporting normal body functions and maintaining good overall health.

Overall, volunteering at the Food Bank helped me understand that biology extends beyond the classroom and lab. The concepts we learn about humans really can affect people's daily lives. I am glad I got to contribute to an effort that helps people access food and better meet their nutritional needs. This experience reminded me that supporting human health involves not only understanding how the body works but also recognizing the importance of helping people access the things they need to stay healthy.
