Working to seal records is always such a rewarding way to participate in Pro Bono as a law school student. I really enjoyed helping folks put their record behind them and move on with life in Fort Smith and the surrounding area.
Being able to help the citizens of Benton county through the Legal Help Desk was a very impactful experience. The efforts around this desk are a great boon to the local community as legal fees continue to rise.
Being able to serve the citizens of Crittenden County through a record sealing clinic was such a pleasure. While helping each client, we got to converse about how sealing their record would allow them to move on with their life so that a past crime would not define them forever. One client was going to nursing school and another was sending out job applications the next day. It was a very neat experience to provide legal help to folks that would immediately feel the impact.
Working with Professor Prettyman was a great experience. It was very cool to be able to directly help folks seeking legal assistance as pro se litigants.
