About

Bethany Christian Services' Refugee Resettlement Program in Athens is committed to helping refugees establish their lives in the US. We provide a range of services to aid in resettlement with the goal of our clients becoming self-sufficient and successful members of society.  Refugee families have experienced significant challenges in their journey of coming to the US. Most refugees come to the US with only the clothes they are wearing and their personal documents. Bethany caseworkers help refugees rebuild their lives by securing an apartment and furnishing it with a number of essential household items to create a safe and welcoming environment. With the support of the community, we can welcome refugee families into their new homes, ensuring they have all that they need to thrive.

Before a refugee individual or family arrives in their new community, a home needs to be readied for them. Community members can welcome refugees into their new homes by preparing a hot meal for their arrival. Bethany staff will provide the volunteer with the cultural background of the arriving family and some common cultural dishes of their country of origin. Providing this meal is a wonderful way for a volunteer to add a personal touch to the refugee family's welcome into the US.
