About

Hello Volunteers! Happy Earth Month!! We’d like to thank you for volunteering with Keep Austin Beautiful and Austin Rowing Club. We are so excited to have you out for a day of fun, community, and volunteering. You'll be working on giving some extra love to the lake and trails of our wonderful Lady Bird Lake. Kayaks are available via waterway registration but if you are uncomfortable going out on the water, we'll have you focus on litter abatement along the hike & bike trail.

Your Lake Leader will be Henry Andrastek and the Austin Rowing Club Staff. They will have your cleanup supplies, helpful safety guidelines, and further instructions for you.

Event Details

Starting Location: Austin Rowing Club (74 Trinity St, Austin, TX 78701)

Parking: Please note that there is no parking available at the boat house so you will need to find street side parking or a spot at the Convention Center Parking Garage, 201 East 2nd St. – with entrances on Brazos St and San Jacinto. (No cash accepted)

Things to Bring: A FULL bottle of water, a hat, & snack. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended if you are going to be on the shoreline.

“Know Before You Go”

Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:

  • Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
  • Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity.
  • Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
  • Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift at your earliest convenience to re-open those spots for registration.

Thanks again for being involved in making Austin such a unique and beautiful place to live and experience! See you on the lake!
