Benton County Legal Help Desk (Friday mornings)

Students will work alongside an experienced attorney at the Benton County Courthouse Help Desk to help people represent themselves. Students will gain experience assisting pro se litigants with drafting pleadings. Responsibilities include conducting interviews to determine legal needs, helping people find and fill out legal forms, giving general advice on how things work procedurally, and directing people to resources. Questions at the Help Desk include issues such as divorce, name change, evictions, emancipation, deed transfer, wage garnishment, social security disability, and guardianship. Students should plan to bring a laptop to the courthouse. 

Commitment: Fridays 8am-12pm. 

Eligibility: All law students are eligible to participate. Rule XV certification is not required; no attorney client relationship is created in this work.
