Postsecondary Sucess Intern

Open Opportunity

About

The Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM) seeks THREE (3) student interns, each for 8-10 hours/week for the 2025-26 academic year. Through SAM, interns will engage on large-scale countywide initiatives designed to shift systems that support economic opportunities for all residents of Spartanburg County.

Each successful intern will be assigned to one of three divisions/centers of work under the SAM umbrella: The Center for Early Childhood Success, the Center for Youth Engagement and Partnerships, and the Center for Postsecondary Success. Each will become an active member of the workflow for their Center, with specific projects and deliverables in alignment with the Center's goals and objectives. They will be included in all Center meetings and community workgroups/advisory councils that help to inform the work of the Center. They will be active members in these meetings, contributing their voice and perspective to the discussions and decisions that are made.

Additionally, the Postsecondary Success Intern will:

  • Work on a team that is changing systems of access to postsecondary education for Spartanburg students.
  • Support Big Mo’s mission of equitable college access and explore systemic challenges to that mission
  • Contribute to messaging that promotes fairness and opportunity
  • Analyze engagement data and feedback to refine Big Mo’s messaging, helping anticipate questions students, families, educators, and partners may have and ensuring communications are clear and effective.
  • Help craft social media posts, respond to student inquiries, and support event promotion, strengthening their ability to communicate across digital and in-person formats.
  • Engage with students from various backgrounds, which will help the Intern develop inclusive messaging and learn to adapt communication styles to meet diverse needs. (Note: if the Student Intern has a specific population interest, we are able to support deeper outreach and engagement led by him/her).
  • Listen to student concerns and questions, gaining a deeper understanding of their experiences and using that insight to shape more compassionate outreach.
  • Assist with event planning and execution
  • Gain leadership skills by guiding outreach strategies with students
