Teach Classes with The Adult Learning Center

Open Opportunity

About

Adult Learning Center (ALC) tutors enrich the lives of their community members by teaching adults that want to improve their English skills, complete their GED, increase literacy or earn their citizenship. As an ALC tutor, expect to create lifelong relationships as you work to empower your students to reach their academic and workforce goals.

Tutors work one-on-one or in small group settings to help learners build reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, improve vocabulary and pronunciation, and gain confidence using English in everyday life, work, and the community. Tutors foster a welcoming, culturally responsive learning environment and adapt instruction to meet learners at their individual skill levels. Training, instructional materials, and ongoing support are provided by library staff.

All volunteer tutors will be required to attend a Volunteer Orientation and a three-hour training before teaching. Tutors typically commit to one, 1.5-hour class session per week, for at least 6 months.
