MMRHFH VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION & REQUIRED WAIVER

Open Opportunity

About

Thank you for choosing to volunteer with Macon Milledgeville Regional Habitat for Humanity!

At MMR Habitat, we believe everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. Guided by our mission of seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope, we partner with local families to make affordable homeownership possible. Our homes are built through the support of dedicated volunteers, generous donors, community partners, and future homeowners working side by side. Simply put—we couldn't fulfill our mission without volunteers like you.

Before registering for volunteer opportunities, all volunteers are required to complete this online orientation and sign the Volunteer Liability Waiver. These documents help ensure every volunteer understands our safety expectations, policies, and procedures before serving.

Our Volunteer Handbook and Liability Waiver outline important information including:

  • Safety requirements and appropriate attire

  • Volunteer eligibility and age guidelines

  • Emergency procedures and incident reporting

  • Confidentiality expectations

  • Image release information

  • Volunteer conduct and workplace policies

By signing the Volunteer Liability Waiver, you acknowledge that volunteer activities may involve inherent risks and agree to follow all safety instructions, use provided protective equipment when required, immediately report any injuries or unsafe conditions, and accept responsibility for participating voluntarily. The waiver also confirms that you have reviewed and understand the policies outlined in the Volunteer Handbook.

Thank you for investing your time and talents to help build homes, communities, and hope. We look forward to serving alongside you!

Liability Waiver is valid for 1 year. MMRHabitat maintains volunteer files for 5 years.

Habitat Homeowners looking to complete Partnership Hours: Please remember that all Partnership Hours must be reported to our Family & Financial Services Manager, Jennifer Sellers who does not monitor GivePulse. When registering for any volunteer event, be sure to include the name of the homeowner you are volunteering for. Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find opportunities to volunteer?
We use GivePulse to manage our volunteer program. On our GivePulse page, you'll find opportunities to volunteer at our ReStore, construction sites in Macon and Milledgeville, community events, and special projects throughout the year. Search for Macon Milledgeville Regional Habitat for Humanity on GivePulse to view upcoming opportunities.
Do I have to create a GivePulse account?
Yes. All volunteers must create a GivePulse account to register for volunteer opportunities. Using GivePulse allows us to go paperless, manage required waivers, communicate important event details, track volunteer hours, and recognize our volunteers. Many other nonprofits also use GivePulse, making it a great resource for finding ways to serve your community.
Do I need to complete the orientation every time I volunteer?
No. Our online Volunteer Orientation and Liability Waiver is valid for one year. Once you've completed it, you only need to register for the individual volunteer opportunities you'd like to attend during that year.
Can I register someone else?
Each volunteer must register using their own GivePulse account so they can complete the required liability waiver and receive important event updates. Parents or guardians should register minors.
There is a lock code on an event. Can I join?
Many organizations schedule volunteer days for their employees, members, or other groups. These opportunities are protected with a lock code. If you are participating with one of these groups, please contact your organization's coordinator for the lock code. If you continue to have trouble registering, reach out to an Outreach Manager for assistance.
The event is full. Can I still join?
While we'd love to welcome everyone, participant limits are in place to ensure a safe and meaningful volunteer experience. If an event is full, you are welcome to contact an Outreach Manager to inquire about availability or to be added to a waitlist if space becomes available.
How do I schedule a volunteer group?
We love hosting volunteer groups! Whether you're a business, church, school, civic organization, neighborhood association, or community group, our Outreach team can help plan a meaningful volunteer experience. Contact us to begin planning your group's volunteer day.
How many people can my group bring?
Group sizes vary depending on the project. Most construction volunteer days are best suited for groups of 5–15 participants, while ReStore volunteer opportunities typically accommodate up to 10 volunteers. Larger groups may be divided between projects or scheduled on multiple days.
Do I need construction experience?
No experience is necessary. We provide all necessary instruction and assign tasks based on your comfort level and experience. Whether you're picking up a hammer for the first time or have years of construction experience, there's a place for you.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes. Dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing sunscreen, a hat, work gloves (if you have them), and a refillable water bottle for outdoor volunteer opportunities.
May I bring my child?
Please review the event listing for the minimum participant age. Per Habitat for Humanity policy, individuals under the age of 16 are not permitted on construction sites when power tools are in use. We strictly enforce this policy to ensure the safety of all volunteers and visitors. Participants who do not meet the age requirement may be asked to leave.
We try to offer family-friendly volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Be sure to check our volunteer calendar on GivePulse for opportunities appropriate for younger volunteers.
What if I need to cancel?
If you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration through GivePulse or notify an Outreach Manager as soon as possible. This allows us to offer your spot to another volunteer and prepare the appropriate number of materials and supplies.
Will I receive community service hours?
Yes. We are happy to verify volunteer hours for schools, employers, and court-approved community service (when applicable). Please be sure to check in and out during your volunteer shift, and let an Outreach Manager know if you need documentation.
Can I volunteer if I have physical limitations?
Please let us know if you need accommodations, and we'll do our best to find an opportunity that's a good fit.
