I loved the experience. I was there helping organize boxes and then it lead over into the after school program. Those kids are so fun to be with. I would definitely return.
It was a very good experience to help others. While my friend and I were signing in, a women came in asking if she could have food cause she just took medication and needed some protein. Unfortunately, their food pantry wasn't back open for the public until 6 pm and at this time it was 2:30. Watching her walk away hungry was a really hard thing to see, but it made me realize how fortunate I am and that I should be volunteering more often. While my friend and I were there, Lisa (the girl in charge) put us in a back room to help organize a craft room for the after school care program. We spent and hour and a half sorting through jewelry making beads and supplies and putting them into better organization so they are easily accesible. As we were leaving, the after school care kids were being dropped off and it was sweet to get to talk to some of them while they were working on homework with some volunteer tutors.
Volunteering today at lifesource turned out to be more fun than I thought. It was my first time volunteering there, and I enjoyed it. The people in charge were very kind and funny, and I got to meet some new people along the way. I learned about food pantries and what qualifies you for them and the local places that donate to lifesource. It was a very interesting experience and I enjoyed getting to help out!
Fun and helpful crew
