We met at Lake Fayetteville for archery. For this activity, the kids were split up to come at different times so there would be a lower student:grownup ratio for safety reasons. The instructor spoke first about safety tips and instructions. Four or five kids were able to shoot at a given time and for a while they switched out practicing, then we all had a competition. The kids did really well with following instructions and staying safe.
We met at the Kessler mountain fields for flag football. First we did warm up exercises. Then the kids were divided into older and younger groups. Some of the kids needed help getting their flag belts on. They played a game, did some drills, and took water breaks. We made sure to quadruple check kids were OK if they took a tumble.
This was so much fun. The kids met at neat part of the Fayetteville trail near the Fayetteville Public Library for some hiking. It was such a pretty day for it. I walked with a group of 6-8 year olds that all knew each other. Along the hike, they told me (in exquisite detail) about some shows that they like, they talked about hobbies they like to do, and then we made up characters (kind of like pokemon) for an imaginary story. We picked the kind of creature, what powers they'd have, and finally their name. Then we all walked back to the trailhead for water and a break.
We met at the Kessler Mountain soccer fields. The kids were grouped into younger (nine and under) and older (10 and older) groups, and I worked with the younger group. The leader first directed the group with practices for controlling the ball. Then, the kids did more complicated drills for practice, and finally, the group of younger kids were divided into three teams and the kids played a soccer game. Two teams played while one rested, then they switched.
