I love writing these letters to kids! It's so heartwarming knowing that someone is reading this and will hopefully feel uplifted. I encourage anyone to do this service opportunity.

Writing these letters was a deeply meaningful and emotional experience. It reminded me how powerful words can be—especially when someone is going through a hard time and needs encouragement, hope, or simply to feel seen. I didn’t write these letters all at once. I spent a couple of months working on them, sitting with the words, reflecting on how they might be received, and making sure each message felt sincere and supportive. I wanted to be fully present in the process, not rush it. Taking that time allowed me to really invest emotionally in what I was writing, and to consider how even a few kind sentences might impact someone in foster care who’s facing uncertainty or transition. As I wrote each letter, I thought about how I might feel if I were in their shoes—uncertain, maybe scared, and just trying to find something solid to hold on to. That helped guide the tone of the letters: gentle, kind, and reassuring. I wanted the reader to feel warmth, not pressure; hope, not perfection. I also tried to include messages that felt personal, even though I didn’t know exactly who would be reading them—things like reminders that they matter, that they’re not alone, and that their future still holds joy and possibility. Overall, the experience taught me to lead with empathy and to remember that sometimes, it’s not about fixing everything—it’s about showing up, even just on the page, and saying, “I see you. I care. You’re not alone.”
