Assisted 9 clients with legal questions at 7Hills Day Center
Legal research for client regarding Statute of Frauds. Organized/cleaned out Legal Help Desk filing box.
Made a phone call to Crain GMC on behalf of client with attorney Stan Adelman.
Assisted 4 clients with varying legal needs.
Helped five clients today and they were all new besides one. Had a laundry list of different issues, from social security, divorce, wage garnishments, debt collection generally, vehicular liens, eviction, etc. Stan brought doughnuts for my last day and Lindsey came to meet everyone (She already knows more than I, and will do a great job next year)!
Helped 5 clients. Four were clients we had already seen and gave them updates on their cases (if they had any). One client was a younger and seeking asylum in the US. I sent him contact info for the legal immigration clinic at uark and other nonprofits that take on cases (along with Bogart Small's contact info).
Helped five clients today. Met one client's baby (she was pregnant the last time we helped her). She wanted to hold her during the meeting, which I did not anticipate. Helped her with some parental rights/child support disputes. Helped others with SSI, divorce, and restraining order issues. The last was the lengthiest regarding an ongoing case legal aid is dealing with about a client's house that got red-tagged by the city to be uninhabitable. This client really just wanted to be heard and the attornies did a good job of mitigating her emotions and stating where they were at in the case. A pretty busy day at the help desk.
Helped three clients today. One with a FTA for a speeding ticket from 2018. Another who was evicted from their home due to code violations (unsure what the violations are). And lastly, one who was trying to get a meth possession charge expunged that they served time for and remediated.
Saw four clients. Helped the first with an order of protection. The second with renewing their disability. The third with an upcoming arraignment and court case. The fourth had a general legal questions they were researching regarding Title 16 of the Arkansas Code (they just wanted to have a hearty discussion). Additionally, we assisted a social worker at the center with an ongoing case they have regarding their client's parole.
Only had two clients today. One was seeking social security benefits from her husband who was in jail. Another also was trying to contact her husband in jail. Talked with one of the social workers there who resigned and is looking for different work. Got to talk with thurman, who is one of the attorneys, for a while about his past work since we were waiting for more clients. Helped one lady clean her foot that she had toes amputated from recently.
