It was nice knowing that just by turning off one light switch turned off multiple lightbulbs. I have also walked 10 flights of stairs, in the process, so that was nice as well.
This was a great experience. We were split up into groups of 5 and given a map with a specific building assigned to go turn the lights off. My group was assigned to the Jesse H. Jones Hall (JON). We went throughout the building turning off lights in many of the classroom and computer monitors. We counted over 400 lightbulbs that we turned off. In returning to our large group, we reflected on what we had done and played a little trivia. Many of the trivia questions showed how doing something so small, such as cutting your shower time by one minute, can save energy, 500 gallons of water. Longhorn Lights Out is working to conserve energy one lightbulb at a time.
Given maps and went to the UTC with a large group and turned most of the lights that could be turned off. After, we watched submitted videos and were given the chance to win prizes like Star Wars merchandise and bracelets. Pizza was also served.
