I learned a lot from this and a lot of the information made me concerned. One thing I found out was that 26% of human trafficking victims are minors.
They provided us with great information, like myths about human trafficking, how human trafficking and human smuggling are different, how sports are connected to human trafficking, not all trafficking is “snatch and go” and a lot of the times it happens in classrooms, workplaces, etc. They also gave us links to resources we should use if we want to learn more and encouraged us to speak up whenever we see something suspicious.
During this event, I learned the importance of knowing signs and important information about human trafficking. This includes what is human trafficking and what is considered human tracking. Sexual and physical assault are also involved with human trafficking. This also includes fraud and how people in human tracking are threatened in various ways. We also learned how a person being human trafficking is affected by mental health issues and health issues due to the abuse. I feel like this information was very important and informative because they also taught us the signs of human trafficking and what to do in the situation.
The “Virtual Presentation on Human Trafficking” was a much-needed event that helped spread awareness about the issue. During the session, we discussed several topics, including red flags to watch for, why the state of Maryland is a high contributor, risk factors, types of sex trafficking, and ways to help. One major takeaway was learning the S.O.S. hand gesture. “To make the signal, you hold up your open palm, tuck your thumb against it, and then close your fingers over your thumb (Revize)”
Very informative session. Glad I joined to learn more about human trafficking and how I can be of help.
In this Virtual Presentation on Human Trafficking, the discussion aimed to raise awareness of this urgent issue and equip attendees with the knowledge to recognize and respond to signs of trafficking. It was a valuable opportunity for us to gain insights that can help them contribute to a safer community
