On Monday, October 12th, I had the opportunity to tutor kids and help with activities in Te Cuento un Cuento Bilingual Children's Program. This Monday we discussed strength and confidence by reading a Spanish book about a kid and their crown. A fun and welcoming environment is always present, making the kids joyful to be there and excited to learn. Not only are they learning, but having the parents present, provides them with knowledge on how to raise a kid on multiple cultures to ensure they are appreciated equally. I love volunteering for Te Cuento Un Cuento, all the kids and their energy never fails to make me smile and laugh!
On Monday, October 5th, I participated in Te Cuento Un Cuento, where we had the opportunity to teach bilingual children about their culture and traditional foods. We read a Spanish book about common desserts and then created an interactive activity to unleash their creativity. This included coloring, cutting shapes, sculpting clay into foods, etc.
They designed their own desserts based on the book, helping them learn about the foods associated with their countries of origin. I enjoyed seeing the children become more connected to their cultural backgrounds. The snacks provided at the end of the volunteer experience allowed them to experience what these traditional desserts taste like. Their faces lit up with joy when they tried foods they had never tasted before or even knew existed.
This experience showed me the importance of teamwork, creativity, and making learning engaging for children. It also helped me understand how organizations like Te Cuento Un Cuento can preserve cultural traditions and help children maintain a connection to their heritage while growing up in a different environment.
Overall, this experience reminded me that small efforts can make a meaningful difference in a community. In the future, I hope to apply these lessons to business and leadership by encouraging collaboration, embracing different cultures, and creating opportunities that help others feel valued and included. It's incredibly important to maintain and retain diversity in any environment!
