About
Have you ever participated in FIRST Robotics as a team member, mentor, coach, volunteer, parent volunteer, technical supporter, or in another role?
EagleTron, FRC Team 9559, is recruiting volunteers with any level of previous FIRST experience to support our upcoming robotics season.
Whether you participated for one season or several years, served in a technical or nontechnical role, or simply want to reconnect with the FIRST community, we would love to hear from you.
Volunteers may support areas such as mechanical systems, electrical systems, programming, CAD, fabrication, controls, scouting, strategy, drive team support, pit operations, inspection preparation, competition logistics, team organization, recruitment, fundraising, social media, and mentoring.
FRC experience is especially helpful, but volunteers with FTC, FLL, or other FIRST experience are also encouraged to apply.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome volunteers who:
- Have any level of previous FIRST Robotics experience
- Want to give back and help guide the next generation
- Are willing to teach and mentor rather than simply complete tasks for young people
- Can work collaboratively with coaches, mentors, volunteers, and team members
- Are dependable and willing to communicate consistently
- Can contribute during some portion of the robotics season
- Have reliable transportation to scheduled team activities
You do not need to consider yourself a robotics expert. If you have been part of FIRST before and want to share what you know, there may be a place for you with EagleTron.
College Students
This is an excellent opportunity for college students who previously participated in FIRST and want to stay connected to robotics.
Volunteer hours may be useful for requirements connected to a major, course, scholarship, engineering organization, campus club, fraternity, sorority, honor society, professional association, or leadership program.
Students may also gain additional experience in engineering, programming, project management, mentoring, leadership, communication, competition operations, and teamwork.
How the Volunteer Process Works
Registering for this opportunity is the first step in expressing interest. It does not automatically approve someone to begin volunteering with our robotics team members.
Prospective volunteers will be asked to:
- Complete the SHIELD Mentor Program volunteer application.
- Complete the required background check.
- Participate in SHIELD Mentor Program volunteer training.
- Discuss interests, experience, availability, and potential placement with Coach Precious McKoy.
- Receive confirmation of an approved volunteer assignment before beginning direct service.
Our training covers our mentoring approach, expectations for working with young people, team culture, safety, supervision, appropriate boundaries, volunteer responsibilities, and how adults can support learning without taking ownership of the work away from team members.
Location
EagleTron serves young people across the Piedmont Triad. Activities may take place at our downtown Greensboro office and at approved locations throughout Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem, and surrounding communities.
Volunteers must have reliable transportation to participate at our office and at approved off-site activities they choose to support.
Meetings at our downtown office are by appointment or confirmed team activity only. The building has secured entry, so visitors must be let into the building upon arrival.
Interested?
Register through GivePulse to express interest.
You may also call or text Coach Precious McKoy at 336-337-2771 with questions about volunteering.
Please be prepared to share your previous FIRST experience, areas of interest, general availability, and any volunteer-hour requirements.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with SHIELD Mentor Program. Because many of our opportunities involve mentoring, leadership development, robotics, community outreach, and working with young people, volunteers are expected to meet the following requirements:
• Complete SHIELD Mentor Program volunteer onboarding and any required training before working directly with young people.
• Follow all SHIELD Mentor Program safety, mentoring, supervision, and volunteer guidelines. Our programs use structured group and team-based mentoring, and volunteers are expected to support appropriate boundaries and adult supervision requirements.
• Be dependable, communicate clearly, and notify Coach Precious McKoy as soon as possible if your availability changes.
• Maintain professional, respectful, and encouraging interactions with young people, families, volunteers, staff, community partners, and other participants.
• Be willing to guide and teach rather than simply complete tasks for young people. Our goal is to help young people develop skills, confidence, leadership, teamwork, and experience overcoming adversity.
• Have reliable transportation to and from scheduled activities. Volunteer opportunities may take place at our downtown office as well as approved off-site locations throughout Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem, and other Piedmont Triad communities.
• Understand that meetings at our downtown office are by appointment only. Please contact Coach Precious McKoy at 336-337-2771 by call or text before arriving. The building has secured entry, so volunteers must be let into the building upon arrival.
• Follow any additional requirements associated with specific volunteer assignments, events, robotics competitions, community activities, or partner locations.
• College students seeking service hours should communicate any required number of hours, deadlines, verification forms, or requirements associated with their major, course, scholarship, fraternity, sorority, honor society, club, or professional organization in advance.
Some volunteer roles may require additional screening, orientation, technical experience, or role-specific training before placement. Completing an application does not automatically guarantee placement in every volunteer role. We work to match volunteers with opportunities based on their interests, skills, availability, experience, and the current needs of SHIELD Mentor Program and EagleTron, FRC Team 9559.
Most importantly, we are looking for volunteers who believe in the importance of mentoring and are willing to show up consistently, share their knowledge, continue learning, and help guide young people toward future possibilities.
This opportunity is a great way to:
Stay involved with competitive robotics
Share skills and knowledge gained through FIRST
Gain mentoring and leadership experience
Strengthen technical or nontechnical skills
Build experience in engineering, programming, project management, communications, marketing, fundraising, scouting, or team operations
Meet other people connected to robotics, engineering, education, and STEAM
Gain meaningful experience for your résumé or professional portfolio
Earn volunteer or community service hours
College students may be able to apply volunteer hours toward requirements for a major, academic course, scholarship, fraternity, sorority, honor society, professional organization, engineering organization, campus club, or leadership program.
Whether FIRST was a major part of your life or something you participated in for a short time, this is an opportunity to give forward what you learned and help young people have an amazing robotics season.
