MLK Day of Service

CLCE wanted to offer the option to participate in MLK Day of Service from wherever you may be at this time and whatever your comfort level is with COVID-19 at the moment. The options below can be completed on your own time and in your own home. After completing your virtual volunteer project you will need to email proof of completion (photos, sample evidence, etc.) to Alex Dennis @ dennisa15@ecu.edu in order to receive the 2 hours of service. Please spend about 2 hours on your project since you are receiving 2 hours of service in Give Pulse. If you have any questions about these options please send me an email. 

Virtual Volunteer Options:

• Write letters or emails to government officials advocating for policy change on a social issue that you are passionate about. More info on contacting elected officials here:  https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials 
• Mentor or tutor students virtually (It is okay if this is a family member, family friend, etc.) 
• Chalk the sidewalks with inspiring messages outside of a nursing home.
• Help neighbors paint or repair something outside their home.
• Make signs to promote census taking or voting.
• Organize a social media campaign to raise awareness about a social issue.
• Record a short radio commercial or PSA about a local issue to raise awareness.
• Clean up trash in a nearby nature trail or find ways to creatively mark the trail.
• Design or update a website or social media channel for a local organization.
• Write comforting letters to soldiers in the military or first responders.
• Build a Wikipedia page for a person, place, or historic event that is not well represented.

Please make sure you ask permission from any respective organization BEFORE completing any projects for or with them.
