About

Hey everyone!

I'm a volunteer leader for Austin Parks Foundation, a non-profit organization that builds public-private partnerships to develop and maintain parks, trails and open space in Austin and Travis County. You might see me out and about in Austin parks planting trees, planting bareroot saplings, mulching, and root collar clearing. If you are curious about what any of these things are, go to austinparks.org and sign up for one of our many volunteer opportunities.

Circle C Metropolitan Park - moving mulch to Tees & baskets

Weather was beautiful, abd everybody there was an AMAZING worker. Three different mulch piles and wasps may have been intimidating for some, but not these guys. The picture of efficiency! :)

Bare-Root Sapling Planting - Battle Bend Springs Greenbelt

We planted ~250 plants (bareroot seedlings, baby palmettos, inland sea oats) with less than 20 volunteers! Conditions were pretty good for this activity: the ground was soft, and a water source was readily available. There was a monthly cleanup going on at the same time that only lasted until 11, so I think some volunteers only scheduled that much time to come out, but we still got a LOT done.

    Planting baby trees

We planted about 700 saplings! Wow! I really like this method of planting...I believe volunteers enjoy seeing large quantities of plants going in the ground, and the holes are easier to dig than for larger plants.
