Volunteering at the Capital Food Bank allowed me to give back to my new community and make an impact across the DMV area. My role was processing and packaging food supplies, along with other tasks, that went to the residents of the DMV. It was a hands-on experience that related to biological principles, such as human metabolism and handling the fuel people need for their cells to function and keep their bodies in balance, also known as homeostasis. Knowing that the food I aided in preparing is going to DMV residents who could be struggling to meet their nutritional and metabolic needs made it all the more meaningful and impactful.
