The honors event I attended was Health and Criminal Justice: A Psychologist’s Perspective. I learned a lot about the criminal justice system and how it can impact people’s mental health. She primarily works with women, so it was interesting to learn about programs they may implement to help female inmates. Specifically, she discussed pairing inmates with a doula to help them during their pregnancy and birth.

In preparation for my mock interview, I wrote down my answers to the interview questions and then I practiced them. I practiced my responses in front of the mirror and my computer. I was nervous to do this mock graduate school interview in front of everyone, but it was great practice and I’m glad I had the opportunity.
This was my first time voting in a Presidential election and it was exciting, but it was different than what I was expecting. I decided to do an absentee ballot since I wouldn’t be able to vote in my precinct. In the first week of October, I had to fill out a form to request my absentee ballot and mail it in. Then a couple of weeks later, I received my official ballot. While I was waiting on my ballot, I decided to research candidates on the ballot to determine who will be receiving my vote. I wanted to be prepared so that as soon as I received my ballot, I would be able to fill it out and put it in the mail. Honestly, I felt overwhelmed when I received my ballot. There were different papers and envelopes and I needed to make sure everything was right, to ensure my vote was counted. First, I filled in the bubble for the candidates who I voted for, and then I had to fill out another form to verify my vote. Next, I had to make a copy of my driver’s license to verify my identity. Then, I put my ballot in the mail and hoped and trusted they would receive it in time. I felt proud I was able to place my vote and do my duty as a citizen. As soon as I put my ballot in the mail, I called my parents and my friends. I wanted to make sure they voted and that we recognized how privileged we are to be able to participate in an election. This election was important and I’m happy I was able to vote. On election day, it was great to see the long lines of people voting and see everyone wearing their “I voted” sticker. I was happy and proud to cast my vote, but I will say, I hate I wasn’t able to get a sticker!
The event I volunteered at was Cardinal Nights. This event was held outside of the Union Mall. I volunteered anywhere I was needed, but mainly I helped people at the photo booth.
A-Week- During this week, I helped set up and organize events during Welcome Weeks. Also, I held daily morning meetings with freshmen to help them learn about the various different resources on campus.
