I volunteered for Adopt a Senior, even though I just checked volunteers in, it was a great program. I only needed to put in an hour, but i wanted to help with the delivery of the baskets. It was so nice to see so many people caring for our elderly.
Listening to them telling us about the program really warmed my heart because we sometimes forget about our elderly and just worry about children.
Give back Saturday was great. We helped clean up after the Halloween festival they had. My task was to clean the outside and to make sure all the decorations were off the gate. It was actually pretty clean despite them having about 1,000 people. I also got to see their garden, it brought happiness to me, because i always wanted to have my own garden with my very own organic vegetables. I didn't get to work on it, just past through it to set the block of hay down.
At the end they offered us to take pumpkins since they had a lot left over. It helped because that weekend i was planning on buying some for my daughters to carve. I'm glad they provided costumes to kids who didn't have one.
My experience this Saturday was great! I worked in the closet room organizing the kids clothes. I really enjoyed this task.It was well organized, when people go and pick out clothes they unfolded the clothes and just put them anywhere. My area was the most unorganized, but was glad i was able to sort it out the way i did. I have 2 daughters, so i did this task how i would organize their clothes.
Everyone that day seemed so committed in helping out, it was a little chaotic in the closet room since everyone was going in and out putting more clothes on the shelves. This is so great and i hope alot of people know about the programs offered here.
This was the first time I volunteered here. To be honest I didnt know this place was even here. As I waited to go in, there was a man waiting as well. He only spoke Spanish, he asked me if this was the place that helps with immigration. It made me sad that i didn't know to much information about this place, so i told him i wasn't sure, but that i would ask someone. He said he wanted to become a US citizen and this touched my heart, because I just recently helped my mom get her citizenship. Nevertheless they guided him to the right location.
As the day started, the place was a bit old, but it was well organized. Everyone there seemed so nice and genuine. That day we had to sort clothes that could be used in the fall. It made me sad that while going through it all a lot was for summer and we had to put it in a red bin. Not sure if that red bin was going to be recycled. Some of the bags we opened smelled so bad and dirty. We all worked together to sort it all. It wasn't my favorite thing to do, but knowing this will help someone in need made it all worth it.

Well organized, Love what you do! |

For this impact, i want to say it was so peaceful and tranquil. We worked in the garden area. Our duties was to clean up the garden, water plants, prep and fertilize the dirt for next season plants/veggies. I don't remember the lady's name who was showing us how to do the work, but she was great! She was very knowledgeable and provided so much to the community. She was awesome! The day was perfect for this type of work and i was glad we worked outside.
