I volunteered for the E-Day kicker competition. It is an event where many high school and middle school students come to the university and compete in STEM-based activities. In particular, for the kicker competition, students had to create an artificial leg, name the different parts, and use the leg to kick a ping-pong ball toward a target. I was in charge of explaining the rules and keeping score.
I got to talk and work with employees at International Paper at my designated location. Since they were alumni of the UofM, it was also easy to focus on our task while talking about various topics passing the time. Our group was able to clean up a whole street within the designated time which also showed us how well we were able to work as a team in a tier orderly fashion.
This was a great event to volunteer at and everyone was so kind! Got to stay outside where there was a beautiful view and talked to a few participants as well.
