Great trip with Civic Engagement. We traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana and participated in 5 days of community service with Camp Restore.
Day 1: Construction on homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina and following storms.
Day 2: Volunteering at Love in Action food bank. We helped stock the shelves before it opened and once it opened we helped "shoppers" select their items.
Day 3: Food Bank #2. We helped stock and hand out items. Some of our group prepared hot meals to deliver to homes in the area.
Day 4: Landscaping in the Lower 9th Ward. We learned so much about this area and the Hurricane Katrina devastation.
Day 5: Sorting mardi gras beads. This center collects mardi gras beads and cleans them and then repackages them to be sold again! Reduce reuse recycle!
