I went back to visit the kids and help the new Crew Leader manage the 4th and 5th grade boys. While it was a hard day because some of the kids tested their limits to see what they can get away with for the new teacher, they seemed obedient to listen to the both of us. I was happy to see the children again since it's been a long time.

Every Tuesday and Thursdays I volunteer at Side by Side Kids, an afterschool program for elementary students and their location is housed at an elementary school called T.A. Brown. During my time here, I connect with kids as they do homework they receive from school, read, create, and learn about faith.
As I have made more relations with the kids, I tend to see that giving kids attention helps some of the kids to know what they should or should not be doing. Sometimes even it seems that when kids are more down what helps them is to give them that attention and reassurance that they are important and cared for. The kids at the elementary school are precious children who have a bright future ahead of them but they just need help to know and be given guidance to see into the future as well as think for themselves how they could help themselves
I started to volunteer for side by side kids and have been volunteering every Monday and Wednesday of each week. I really enjoy the kids and growing in my own patience for them as I see them and get to know them more and their tendencies and they way they act around their peers. I find it very interesting that some kids have their bad day while others have good days or even that they may have their good and bad days all in the same day. I find this to be a great opportunity for me to learn how to connect with the kids so that I can better use this opportunity to help kids in the future
I thought it was very nice to be there under ULN to write letters to the soldiers of the 187th division. Their support and protection for us is what keeps us a united nation today.

For this volunteer service, I helped prepare gravy for the Thanksgiving Celebration as a main reason. Additionally as I was on the volunteer site, I was instructed to move furniture around as well as clean used tabletops and lastly transport the gravy to the event location.
Volunteering at Swim Meet:
Served as a backup-timer for the swim meet from 7-10PM in the TSC building on campus. I used a stopwatch to record the time manually in case electricity may have affected the building in any way and also kept track of the secondary timer for the score board.
The contact that I volunteered under is darci@austin.utexas.edu
