This was a busy day for Blazer Kitchen, but we all worked hard to get everyone their groceries. The work was fast-paced because we were filling the orders placed plus walk-ins, but working together, we worked out a system.
Several people thanked me when I brought out their order, and we traded short "how do you dos." Knowing that the work you are doing is helping someone who is experiencing food insecurity to fill their larders is rewarding. Seeing their smiling faces and working with a great team makes the day shine.
I attended the Zoom orientation for volunteering at Blazer Kitchen. It was nice to meet the people I will be volunteering with and learn more about Blazer Kitchen's mission, what is expected of volunteers, and how we will serve the UAB community.
We enjoyed an ice cream party; I gave everyone their Christmas cards and then said thank you and goodbyes. Volunteering at McCoy was an incredible experience.
I helped with addressing envelopes and enjoyed the conversation while doing so. I wish I could have stayed longer, talked more, and finished addressing more envelopes, but I had a productive and pleasant hour with the ladies and gentlemen at McCoy.
