I volunteered with HandsOn Atlanta at Love T Nolan Elementary school for their Discovery program. Today was a genuine good session because we engaged in physical activity, social/emotional learning, and building windmills by using paper cups, some coins, and a straw.

I volunteered through HandsOn Atlanta to assist Margie's House Food Truck Distribution. Our job was to help families who are struggling with Food Insecurities throughout their households. I was tasked with bagging potatoes. I had to bag as many as possible before the cars came in and picked up their food.
I volunteered with HandsOn Atlanta at Love T Nolan Elementary School to help assist with teaching and assigning kids activities to do. First, we let them draw on paper bags and eat snacks, then we let them go to the gym to play a game of tag. Afterwards, we taught the kids who the black inventors were and the inventions they made such as a street mailbox, a lightbulb, elevator doors, etc... The kids also learned how to build a chair and cup phones from rubber bands, yarn, construction paper, etc... I personally enjoyed this experience again because I met some new kids and knew some kids from the last volunteer event and I was able to build closer bonds with them.
The National Council for Negro Women Clothing Drive at Spelman offered 1 community service hour per three pieces of clothing donated. I donated 9 pieces of clothing which equates to 3 community service hours. I donated 2 dresses, 4 shirts, and 3 pairs of pants.
HandsOn Atlanta had a volunteer opportunity with Discovery @ Love T Nolan Elementary School. Discovery is a program for children (K-12) to work on STEAM which stands for social-emotional learning, and health/wellness. During this session, it was important for the volunteers to interact with children and guide them on the activities that they were supposed to do. For the first activity, the children had to play a cup game in the gym and then they played red light, green light to burn some energy. Afterwards, we taught them what the word affirmation meant, and then we instructed them to write out their names and to put vocabulary terms next to the letters of their name. Some volunteers instructed the children to make silly putty (a sticky substance made from glue). I greatly enjoyed this experience because the kids were insanely hilarious. I met some great volunteers, and I would love to come back to volunteer again!
I did my volunteer opportunity with HandsOn Atlanta who participated with this organization called Margie's House Food Truck Distribution. This organization assists families with food insecurity. Trucks deliver food produce such as cabbage, cucumbers, onions, eggplants, etc... for the volunteers to put in plastic bags and give them away to families in need of these foods. My tasks were to bag between 6-8 cucumbers per grocery bag and 6 onions per grocery bag. At around 10 am, there were cars with families lined up to pick up the food items that we were going to hand them. I found it really nice to say, "Good Morning!" to them because it made them smile and that made my day! I genuinely enjoyed this food opportunity because not only did I get to interact with the volunteers, but I was able to interact with the families and see how grateful they felt!
