At Washington Montessori, I volunteered with the 3rd graders which had a different dynamic than any of the classes I've been through. We practiced pronunciation, played word games, and learned the rules of grammar, all while maintaining a sense of fun and excitement. We then transitioned to physical education and the students transformed into a team of athletes as they followed the game of football. Throughout my time at Washington Montessori, I enjoyed every moment!
I had the opportunity to participate in a unique volunteering event that involved writing voting postcards and simultaneously gaining insights into various scholarships available to students. The event not only allowed us to contribute to our community but also provided us with valuable insights into educational opportunities. The combination of community service and scholarship exploration made for a truly great volunteering experience.
Volunteering at BackPack Beginnings was an enriching experience. Arranging and sorting clothing for those in need was a simple task but a meaningful one. Each neatly folded item represented an act of kindness, reminding me of the importance of helping others.
I had the opportunity to volunteer at Washington Montessori School again but this time I was with Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. I assisted the teacher by taking them to recess, reading to them, playing math games, and building with blocks. Recess was my favorite part because the kids had so much energy and they made me feel loved.
After recess, I read some of the children's favorite books to them. They loved listening to stories and were very engaged. Each time I come to Washington Montessori, it's always a great experience.
Volunteering at Washington Montessori School was an absolute delight. As a college student with no younger siblings or very young cousins, I was not accustomed to being around children on a regular basis. However, my time with the 5th-grade students was a truly refreshing and rewarding experience.
The children's energy was a constant source of joy. Helping the teacher prepare for lunch and participating in their recess activities, such as kickball and track, provided me with a glimpse into their daily lives and the joy they find in simple pleasures.
Beyond the physical activities, I cherished the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with the children. They were eager to learn about my college experience, and I found their questions and perspectives to be both insightful and heartwarming. Washington Montessori School was a reminder of the simple joys of childhood and the impact that we can have on the lives of young people.
