During my service, I checked the dates of the donated food to ensure that it was of quality before being packaged to go out to the community.
I acted as a date checker, making sure that the goods that went out were of the best quality. It felt great to give back and know that I was helping fight food insecurity in my community.
Through my service with the food bank, we worked an assembly line to put together food boxes for elderly adults, my groups was able to complete about 35 pallets of boxes that would go out to serve the elderly community.
During my service, I acted as a date checker, ensuring that the goods were in quality condition and safe to be packaged and sent out as donations. At the end of the service, we were able to sort through about 9,000 pounds of food, which would go on to create about 8,000 meals for the community. It felt great to be able to see the a quantifiable impact that I helped make in the fight against food insecurity.
Through this experience i got to aid sustainable spelman in their goal of pushing spelman college up the leaderboard in an effort to win money for improvements to the school. These improvements will allow our campus to purchase more sustainable materials like solar panels and be chargers. I really enjoyed seeing everyone work together for a common goal of wanting to improve our campus
Through my service with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, I learned about the organization's mission and how it was integral to the creation of Feeding America. I also learned about food insecurity and how many people it affects, not just in the Atlanta community but in the state of Georgia as well. I enjoyed that through a simulation, we got to experience a small part of what life is like for someone who faces food insecurity, what their obstacles are, and which programs are designed to help them.
