A woman from the Child and Family Advocate talked on zoom about what this organization does. Some things she mentioned were how they are in need of volunteers, They have acute and resorative care, And MDT partners. MDT partners are the police department and CFS. They get mandated reports and they send them to them so they can focus on serving those children. 275 families requested residential services from them. Acute care is advocacy, walk the family through trauma because it is important to have someone close to you when you are going through those ups and downs. Forensic interviews are done as they are child-friendly. A medical examination is not required but is available. Restorative care is the mental health aspect.

We learned about the Circles Model. The Circle Leader and circle allies go through training to learn how to be a good listener for support about poverty and they match allies and leaders to work toward the goals to find the upper mobility. We meet on Wednesday nights at a church to work to find economic success and to help people out of poverty. They look for power and autonomy and teach leadership. The power of connecting and who you know/social capital. The cliff affect - rising income due to working hard they will hit a cliff and lose their benefits which will make them do worse than they were doing. Ways we can get involved is there is a children’s program that teaches the kids similar things that their parents are learning - commitment to 1-2 Wednesday a month. There is also a weekly meal 3:30-6:30 and also an opportunity to tear down and clean up the meal.
