We watered, pulled weeds, worked on checking irrigation system, flagged fire ants, and discussed plant species IDs and plant map with Graduate Students and an Instructor.
Julia and Alex were amazing! We weeded a big space on the lower roof in preparation for planting.
We pulled up ragweed, johnson grass, invasive Setaria and an invasive pea.
Planted: Vernonia, Eupatorium, Rudbeckia hirta, Rudbeckia subtomentosa, Helianthus mollis, Helianthus silphoides.
Watered.
We potted many species into larger pots and labeled them. Rudbeckia hirta, Rudbeckia triloba, Baptisia alba, Pycnanthemum tenuifolium, Vernonia missouriensis.
We pulled Johnson grass, Setaria, invasive pea.
Planted Vernonia missouriensis, Rudbeckia triloba, purple heart-leaved asters, Fleischmann incarnata, Eupatorium sp.
Then we watered.
We pulled Setaria (foxtails) and common ragweed.
Planted Eupatorium, Helianthus mollis, Helianthus silphoides, Verbesina virginica, Liatris aspera, Zizia aurea. Watered them in. Labeled and placed marking flags.
Was a great experience! I really enjoyed my time there. We transferred several flats of Physocarpus "ninebark" seedlings to bigger pots.
Students did a great job! We weeded the plants that we planted last Friday.
Students are amazing! Everyone attending did a wonderful job! There were groups who pulled weeds and groups that planted seedlings.
We planted seedlings from locally collected seeds of Penstemon digitalis, Rudbeckia hirta, Asclepias purpurescens, Asclepias hirtella, and Asclepias tuberosa? (the label was tough to interpret). In addition, we planted a few Echinacea purpurea next to the fence/gate (not from locally collected seeds, these were started by principles of horticulture students). John and I stayed a little late to water them all in.

Thanks for your continued help at Lake Wilson!!
