Impacts

Children's National Hospital

I recently recorded a virtual storytelling session where I read a children's book for sick kids in the hospital. I spent some time creating this video and it filled me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing that it would be shared with children who needed a bit of cheer in their day. The book I read, "The 1619 Project Born on the Water" by Nikole Hannah-Jones was also a learning money for the kids because it talks about the past of African Americans during slavery times. Some kids don't know about those times in life and they must do. Though I didn't directly interact with the kids, the thought of them watching the video and hopefully finding comfort in the story brought me immense joy. It made me reflect on the impact that simple acts of kindness, like sharing a story, can have on someone's spirits, especially during challenging times.

Capitol Area Food Bank

I helped deliver food boxes to seniors which is 65 and older in DC with the Capitol Area Food Bank.I did it for 3 hours and It was cool seeing how happy the seniors were when they got their food one lady didn't even know she signed up to get those and was very blessed. I learned that some old people don't have enough food to eat, and it made me think about why that happens. We learn in biology and in science classes that getting older and may cause health problems and can make it harder for some people to get the food they need. It's important to help them out so everyone can be healthy.

Capitol Area Food Bank

I spent 3 hours volunteering at the Capitol Area Food Bank with other volunteers. We all went to capitol area food bank warehouse and split up into different stations and got to work packing up boxes of food. it was actually really fun and cool to see how much food there was, and we packed over 500 boxes! These boxes were going to be given to seniors in different parts of DC who might not have enough to eat. It made me realize how important it is for communities to come together and help each other, especially when it comes to something as basic as having enough food to eat. Relating back to biology the food we were packing was enough to help seniors create a balanced meal. These balanced meals is the start to how our bodies survive and stay healthy. Just like plants need sunlight and water to grow, humans need food to keep our bodies going.
