Volunteered and helped out with Pizookie yay!
On October 30th, I volunteered to complete my hours at Bayyari Elementary School. When I got there, I was greeted by the same girls who I had gotten to know over the past few weeks. They ran up, hugged me, and were excited to interact and play with me. I played outside with them, pushed them on the swings, and sat with them to communicate with them and see how they were doing. Next, it was time to go inside to divide up in groups. I helped out with Group 5. The team and I gave them fun and interesting questions for each of them to answer with a partner. This activity helped teach them important communication skills. Next, we divided up into clubs. I helped out with the slime club. It was so fun, and the children loved making it while we helped them. Lastly, I helped all of the children get situated for dinner. Sadly, I had to tell them bye because it was time to leave. I am so thankful for this opportunity to have volunteered, and I learned so much through interaction and helping.
Love getting to do my pen pal each week!
On October 17th, I went to Bayarri Elementary School again to volunteer. As soon as I got there I helped the team to sign in, gather the students, and get them in line to separate into their group clubs. At first, the children played outside and I colored with the girls. Next, for the group I was assigned to we played volleyball. I loved this activity because I played volleyball in high school so I got to teach and help them play. This group was a group of boys who were eager to learn and I got to teach them the proper form and play with them. Then we walked them to dinner and sat with them.
Loved volunteering and help organize the 5K!!
On October 2nd, I volunteered and observed the children at SOAR. First, I got there and I played with the same group of girls and I asked them authentic questions like how was there day and they would tell me. Then, I helped out with the kindergarteners the rest of the day. First, we made an obstacle course for them to do and then I gave each of them a sticker after completing it. We then helped them with coloring, showing, and telling the class what they drew. The kids then ate dinner and we led them back to the classroom to read to them. Then it was time for them to go home. It was a great experience getting to help out and learn new things about the kids.
On September 25, I volunteered at Bayyari Elementary School. As soon as I walked outside to interact and play with the kids, the same group of girls came running up and hugged me, which was such a sweet and special moment. Next, the team separated the kids into groups. I was with group 5 and we played volleyball with cards. Then, I was assigned to be with the kindergarteners and they learned the seasons- summer, fall, winter, and spring. After the video that we watched for them to understand the seasons, they colored symbols that represented each season and I asked them questions about the seasons. Lastly, we walked them to dinner and made sure they were all seated to eat their dinner.
I volunteered at Bayyari on Wednesday, September 11 from 2:30-5:00. My time there was wonderful! As soon as I stepped outside, some kids ran up to me and hugged me. At first, I played outside with them and played volleyball with them. Then, we all went inside, separated into groups, and entered the classrooms. The leaders taught the kids how to give a speech and each child gave a show and tell, which was a great experience to witness. I played Legos with them and then helped walk them into the cafeteria to eat dinner.
I loved my time volunteering at the elementary school this week! When I got there I got to interact with the kids outside. There was a group of girls sitting outside and they invited me to sit next to them so I did. I got to know these girls and talked with them. Then, dinner was served and I got to interact with more of the children. As I was leaving, they did not want me to go although I told them that I would be back. Some of the kids gave me hugs as I was leaving. I am looking forward to volunteering more as a service-learning student and being around these children!
