Robert Wade

My experience with Run Your City Wilmington has been more fun than a volunteering responsibility. I enjoyed being able to help kids stay active, have fun, and learn more about running, but more importantly, watching them connect and make friends with one another. The program is offered to kids from K to 8th grade, so it gives the older kids the opportunity to look out for the other kids and give them a sense of responsibility. Additionally, as a college athlete, it was nice to be able to share my love for the sport with younger kids and encourage them. Being a part of this organization also helped me improve my leadership and communication skills. Overall, it was a great experience, and I enjoyed giving back to the community. I also just enjoyed connecting with the kids, and it reminded me of my childhood and where I am today and why I do everything. The experience was really rewarding seeing the kids bond and have genuine smiles and have fun while also giving the volunteers the chance to be a bit of a kid themselves again.
