When attending the Capital Area food bank on this day I spent majority of my time in the yard outside. I pulled/cut kale, carrots, and radish out of the ground. Then, weighed it on a scale and then input that data into a table. This process is very similar to how I typically have to do data collection within my biology lab. While at the capital area food bank I also raked and plotted soil, as well as cleaned up the grounds so that they will be ready in the spring for more plants. This experience relates to biology through data collection and maintaining ecosystems. Tasks like soil preparation and weighing plants connect to concepts in plant biology and sustainability.
