My time volunteering at Rise Up Community Farm was both fun and fulfilling. The clear mission of Rise Up Farm is serving those in need and educating, as well as empowering local communities. During my three hours on the farm, I was tasked with planting collards and pulling weeds around the asparagus crops. These hands-on activities were wonderful reminders of how much care and effort goes into raising produce. There was an abundant sense of community, as everyone was extremely welcoming and ready to help one another. Team work was crucial and observable when volunteers came together to determine the most efficient and effective ways to complete their assigned tasks. The experience was a great representation of how influential leadership is dependent on both tactical management and compassion. The impressive role Rise Up Farm plays in supplying fresh produce to underprivileged communities aligns significantly with my values and social expectations of businesses. This experience has influenced me to examine how I can encompass principles of social responsibility into my future career and business ventures. Volunteering with Rise up was an enjoyable way to connect with fellow UNCW students and give back to the community.
