    Community Service for Biology Students

I had the opportunity to volunteer with Homelogic Solutions, a real estate comapny where we did gardening to help improve the environment. This experience connected directly to what I’ve learned in biology, especially about how plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis. By working in the garden, we helped support cleaner air, prevent soil erosion, and create better conditions for plant and animal life. Seeing the impact firsthand made me appreciate how biological processes play a big role in community health and sustainability. Overall, this service taught me that even small actions, like gardening, can make a real difference in protecting our planet.

    Capitol Area Food Bank

Volunteering at the Capital Area Food Bank was a good experience for me. We packaged food, carried boxes, and made boxes that would go to families in need. While doing it, I started thinking about what we’re learning in biology, like how food gives the body the macromolecules it needs to function. The beans and rice we packed have proteins and carbohydrates that give people energy and help build muscle. It also made me think about genes and how they play a role in how people process food differently. Overall, it felt good to help people while seeing how what I’m learning in class connects to real life.
