Allyssa Corporan

I volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank with the Howard University School of Business. Together we packed and served food and goods for underserved communities in DC. This is my second time volunteering with the Capital Area Food Bank and I always feel like I am making an impact on the community due to their commitment and dedication to making sure everything is done well and efficiently, so people can get the best service out of the food bank. I forgot to take a picture while doing the act of service, but I got one of the food bank entrance. This connects to our class because proper nutrition is vital for our bodies to carry out their roles that we talk about in class, like cell reproduction.

I worked with Marthas Table. Working with Martha's Table, I packed food bags and supported handing them out. I was not able to take pictures when I was helping, so my picture is outside the event. At the Joyful Food Market, which is where I volunteered, families can shop at no cost for high-quality produce and pantry staples. I completed essential set-up and operational tasks to ensure that grocery bags are pre-packaged for families. My time volunteering with Martha's Table connects to our class topics because Marthas Table works with food and agriculture, which resembles topics we cover in class like plant growth and food preservation.
