Capitol Area Food Bank

Volunteering at the Capital Area food bank allowed me to see the direct connection between community health and biology. By helping provide nutritious food to those in need, I gained practical understanding of how proper nutrition supports human growth, cellular function, and overall well-being, which are concepts we study in Biology. This experience reinforced the importance of healthy diets in preventing disease and maintaining homeostasis, showing me how biology principles apply to real world public health challenges. I also had fun meeting new people in my community, and work together toward a common goal of helping others.

Jackson @ St Johns congregational church

Delivering groceries and essential goods to elderly church members, their families, and residents of a senior living community gave me insight into the biological aspects of aging and health. By ensuring they had access to nutritious foods and necessities, I saw firsthand how proper nutrition, mobility, and daily care influence immune function, muscle maintenance, and overall quality of life. These are key concepts studied in Biology, related to human physiology and aging. It was nice to visit older people (who don’t get visitors often) and help out, listen to their stories, and enjoy their company. I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer in my Hometown, so it felt good to directly impact my community.
