I did the Tour of Kitchen with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and it was a phenomenal experience. I could see the inside of a beautiful kitchen, invite guests inside, and engage with the homeowners. I love how the Atlanta Community Food Bank is partnering with other organizations to fund and give back to the community. I cannot wait for my next volunteer experience.
I have never volunteered with any food bank prior to this experience, but I also knew that this particular event was a bit different from what volunteers normally do at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I worked one of the "Tour of Kitchen" events, where homeowners open their homes up for people to look at their kitchen design and get inspiration or just appreciate, and the volunteers assisted in helping visitors through the home and making sure the homeowners' rules were followed. I volunteered with a friend which of course made me feel far more comfortable being in the space, but even without him, I think I would have felt ok because of how kind the food bank employee was and how nice the other volunteers were. The only feedback I would have is to come better prepared by eating a bigger meal ahead of time and be ready to be on your feet.
I had a wonderful time, I learned a lot about food insecurity in my community and throughout the country. This has inspired me to donate food to foodbank when I am back at home
I had a great experience serving the community with my spelman and clark sisters. It was great to make change in the local community.
It felt amazing to give back at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, With friendly staff, and friendly faces the time flew by. We collectively sorted 5.144 lbs of food!! I also learned more about food insecurity and how it directly impacts my community. Looking forward to returning!
