Overall, I learned so much about the transfer process at PGCC and the variety of universities that I could transfer to. I learned about the credit requirements to be able to transfer, as well as was able to interact with other students in the program who may also be experiencing the same as I am.
I attended this scholarship night virtually. The meeting started out with an icebreaker activity. Since I attended virtually, I answered the questions that were shown on the screen in the chat. During this meeting I got to know about the transfer advisor Tamika McKelvin. She shared many useful tips about the steps to a successful transfer. I also learned about the common app transfer tool which can help you with making research on multiple colleges and scholarships. Ms. Tamika also shared many things to consider such as the transcript request fees and cost of attendance. We were also informed about PGCC’s Top 5 institutions and their in state tuitions. At the end of the meeting we had an online game; “booklet”, a review about the whole session/meeting.
The meeting was very informative and gave me a variety of resources and tips I can use when transferring. Additionally, the booklet we did was very engaging and I learned many new things I didn't know when it comes to transferring and tuition from different universities.
The event overall was very helpful in showing me the people I needed to know and some insight into how transferring to institutions relates to the Promise scholarship.
Attending this workshop was helpful because I learned that some credits can be transferred to a 4-year school. I learned that it's important to check the deadline for applications to universities and talk to your advisor during each semester. With this information, I will start looking for universities I could attend after graduating to earn my bachelor's. Something I liked during the workshop was the speed friending because we got to engage with people we didn't know and get to know each other a little bit more.
This was a very helpful scholarship night and I recommend more in person in the future.
