I went to the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte in uptown Charlotte to serve in their Operation Sandwich event. We were tasked with making sandwiches for the homeless, who were actively coming in and eating as we made them. This event was unique because connecting with some people made me realize that everyone has a story. When I told them I went to North Carolina A&T and am in the Honors Program, they told me they were proud to meet me because I'm representing not only my family but also the best parts of where I come from. It was just a special feeling knowing that what you are doing impacts the people in your community in more ways than you could have imagined.
We made Affirmation Cards for those who have been affected by trafficking and domestic abuse. They also gave us tips about staying safe and tools to use to avoid trafficking threats.
A couple of my old high school basketball teammates and I went with Charlotte Christian's Men's Basketball team to serve at The Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, South Carolina. We helped with the trash cleanup along the trails of the greenway, and we were able to serve lunch to the landscaping workers and anyone else walking along the greenway. We served beef stew, sandwiches, and chicken wraps. We served there from 9:38 AM - 1:50 PM.
