While I was volunteering at Rise Up Community Farm, the tasks I did were picking okra as well as cleaning off sweet potatoes. During this time I worked with 2 other individuals which not only sped up the process as well as allowed me to meet new people. The people at this community farm were very team focused and worked very well with one another. Everyone was very encouraging to one another and emphasized how well everyone was working. This experience connected to my values and interests by allowing me to work with others to help individuals who are less fortunate or having a hard time at the moment. Something I learned about this organization is, not only do they grow all of their vegetables, but they also donate all of their produce to the community (collecting no profits). They are simply doing this out of the kindness of their heart and their overall care for the community and the type of positive impact they can make. This experience can help shape my thinking by showing me that doing things such as this can allow me to meet new people and experience things I would not do or see on a day-to-day basis.
