Impacts
I got to attend a recess hosted by the honors college. This event allowed me to color a pumpkin and take some stress off during the middle of the semester. I was able to reconnect with other students in honors I hadn't gotten to see and had a great time!
I attended the Finding STEM Summer Research Opportunities Off-Campus workshop hosted by Jonathan Langley. I got to learn more about potential research applications nationally and internationally that would help me stand out as an applicant for medical school and would develop my skills in unique ways that research on campus wouldn't.
I was a part of 2 student panels, one on 10/23 and one on 11/7, allowing me to speak to high schoolers from nearby districts. I disseminated information that I wish I had known about college life, and how to be a competitive scholarship applicant, and provided general life advice to these students.
I serve as an emergency department rounder at the Children's Hospital NWA campus. This opportunity allows me to directly interact with patients and give back to my community by providing translation services and creating comfortable environments for patients and their families undergoing a lot of stress.
I got the opportunity to meet other U of A students passionate about community service and learn more about the importance of NWA watersheds!
I got to speak to Rogers Tech about the opportunities that the University of Arkansas offers, what my first year of college has been like, and how they can be successful as first-generation college students.
I got to spend time mentoring, reading with, and teaching my mentee English while instilling positive habits that will set them up for success in the future.
