I, along with 4 other volunteers, traveled to two different locations in D.C. We unpacked our van and set up an assembly line to pack and give out food to the local homeless people.

My experience volunteering at Martha's Table helped me to bridge my knowledge of biology and the real world. As a volunteer, I worked closely with food, putting it into baskets and handing it to people in need. The food we gave out to underserved communities helped provide important nutrients to their bodies. The carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals in the food we gave out are essential to human survival because they help to provide energy, and overall help with their physical health. Being able to help out my community also made me feel good, because it made me feel like I was helping with a problem that was bigger than me.

I was a market assistant at their market in The Maycroft. I helped stock shelves with different fruits and vegetables and supplying a revolving door of people with these items. This opportunity helped me improve my leadership, cooperative, and vocational skills while interacting with other volunteers and customers.
