Today I was at site for three hours for a typical program. We started with some homework help with emphasis on Reading and Science assignments. Then we moved into Community Meetings where scholars talked about what they were grateful for through making a grateful tree. During mentoring we all played Uno together with the scholars. I floated around with one of the sixth-grade groups. I also took public transportation for a total of three hours.
I went to Ida B. Wells Middle School and worked with the Higher Achievement Program. I spent most of the time helping 6th graders with their homework. I spent a lot of time helping with students with ELA and Math work. After, I assisted students as they did a social-emotional learning activity.
Today I arrived on site and started off the day by sitting in the hallway with two students so they were able to complete their work. I got to speak with them about being at AU, alongside the high school application process in DC, which I learned is similar to my experiences applying to high schools at home. We then moved into electives where I took part in the movie watching elective.
To note, I spent about 60 minutes in transportation to and from site.
